Forest Fire Management


Forest Fire Management Scenario Application will be set in Greece with support of partner Epsilon International S.A. and aims at supporting Decision Making among Civil Protection Operators, Public Administrations and Forest Fire experts during the four life cycle phases of forest fire management.

Specifically, the goal of the FFMS scenario is manifold:

Whole risk management process

The Pilot grounds experience from BRISEIDE project and specifically makes use of existing data and OGC web services (WCS, WCS, WPS) which have already been developed in order to catalogue, query and process time extension datasets related to forest fire management.
For instance, FFM Pilot Application could use already available services which produce meteorological forecasts of high accuracy and spatial resolution in order to make reliable simulations of fire front evolution (WPS).

To this end FFM Pilot Application cooperates with already established Weather-Forecast Authorities & University-Teams (such as Epsilon-Group, NTUA, UoA) and uses already developed standardized protocols for explicit forecast data transfer upon-demand via standard data-formats (ESRI ASCII, GRIB).
By so far, all data used for the FFM Pilot Application are not compliant with the INSPIRE Directive (only metadata).


For this reason, FFM Pilot Application treasures from the eENVplus Infrastructure and benefits from the toolkit that has been developed for the harmonization and validation of datasets according to INSPIRE requirements.
In other words, eENVplus infrastructure has given the opportunity FFM Pilot Application to meet the wider objective at national level to support the implementation of INSPIRE and Shared Environment Information System for Europe (SEIS).
